I felt completely safe and assured by Mr. Agrawal. He explained everything clearly and the whole experience was made as comfortable as possible.

I feel very fortunate to have been under the care of Mr Agrawal for more than seven years despite the circumstances. His professional yet warm, empathetic approach put me at ease immediately and I had complete confidence and trust in his expertise from our first consultation. I never feel uncomfortable to ask questions and he is always so patient and explains everything clearly and in an honest, understandable manner. He has always been so kind, reassuring and supportive to not only me but my family too. He welcomed their involvement in discussions and answered their concerns and it felt like we were 'in it together' as a team. He also has a lovely, sense of humour, only used when appropriate but which makes him personable and relatable. This was appreciated and helped us during a stressful time, with so many difficult decisions to make and information to digest and it was also important for me to feel comfortable with my surgeon taking into account the personal and sensitive nature of a breast cancer diagnosis. It's always a pleasure to see Mr Agrawal for my annual reviews and he always asks after my family and takes a genuine interest in how I am. He also continues to take any new concerns very seriously and will arrange for any further scans quickly to help put my mind at ease and ensure nothing is missed. I feel confident that should my circumstances change again at any time in the future I will be in the best hands.

I first met Mr Agrawal 10 years ago when I was terrified about the breast lump I had found. He was then and still is very kind, caring and professional. Mr Agrawal is an amazing surgeon and I will be eternally grateful for his skill and care.

I have recently been under the care of Mr Avi Agrawal after being diagnosed with breast cancer and cancer in the axillary lymph node. From my first appointment I felt very comfortable in Mr Agrawal's care. He explained very clearly my diagnosis and the treatments I would require. He is very professional, understanding, caring, asks and listens to any worries you may have. On another note he also has a great personality and sense of humour. (I am sure he approaches each patients needs individually but for me I deal with things matter of fact and appreciated this) I cannot fault any of the care and treatment I have received from Mr Agrawal.

The whole experience from 1st consultation through the Breast Cancer surgery and on to follow-up has been 1st class. what is needed in what is one of the most anxious, scary times of your life. Mr Agrawal has lead us through the whole process - answering any queries and concerns. We must also recognise the rest of his team we have seen or been communicating with that is Gwynedd (Breast Cancer Specialist Nurse) and Charlie (Practice Manager) were all so helpful and supportive. The day of surgery went off very well, with Peter and Matthew (Anaesthetists). Thank you all for helping us to come through this stressful time. On top the next step now with radiotherapy.

Profile

As a fully trained Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, I carry out regular diagnostic fast track breast clinics and a full range of breast surgery, including sentinel node biopsy with intra-operative analysis, oncoplastic surgery and breast reconstruction. I also have a special interest in and undertake surgery for skin cancer.

I graduated from the London Hospital Medical College, University of London. My general surgical training was based around several centres of excellence in managing breast diseases, including The Royal Marsden Hospital where I developed oncoplastic techniques to optimise the cosmetic outcome of breast surgery.

I have always been interested in cancer surgery, and as part of my higher surgical training at the University College London, I was awarded a master's degree for my research into Gene Therapy for the prevention and treatment of cancer.

In 2007 I was appointed Consultant Surgeon at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust. I have been the Clinical Lead/Head of department for the Breast and Endocrine Surgery and Surgical Oncology department for Portsmouth for over 10 years. I have also chaired and lead the Breast Multidisciplinary Team at Queen Alexandra Hospital for over 7 years.
I am the Surgical Lead for breast screening cancers and also the Joint Regional Lead for breast cancer for Wessex. I am the Lead Trainer for the Portsmouth National Oncoplastic Fellowship Program and have helped many trainees develop their skills for their consultant career.
